The Chakras: What are they & how do they work

We have seven primary chakras, also known as energy centers, in our system. Each chakra corresponds with specific emotions and physical parts of our body. Eastern medicine -- and now traditional western medicine, too -- know that when there is a disruption in the flow of energy in our system, it can manifest in physical or emotional issues. In this experiential workshop, learn how the chakras work, how to determine if your chakras are blocked (a disruption in the energy flow), and how to optimize their well-being. Includes kinesiology, body scanning, using the pendulum, tuning forks and a guided meditation to optimize your energy flow.

Healing Circles at Earth Spirit in Red Bank
Earth Spirit, the well-known New Age store located at 25 Monmouth Street in Red Bank, has resumed their Friday evening healing circles after a six-month hiatus. According to Christopher Midose, owner of the store along with his mom Joycelyn, "Our customers were asking us to bring the circles back and we wanted to accommodate them."
The focus of the healing circles is to bring harmony in mind, body and spirit, and to support people along their journey of healing. The circles include a meditation and hands-on healing for all participants. What's different about the current healing circles from the past, however, is that they offer something new at each one that will help empower participants in their healing. Some of the topics that will be covered are kinesiology, conscious breathing for health, the power of thoughts and much more.
The healing circles are being facilitated by Diane Todd, of Ocean Grove and Holistic Health Connect. Diane is a Reiki Master/Teacher, who also practices craniosacral therapy, Integrated Energy Therapy, Emotional Freedom Techniques among other modalities. She also conducts workshops for self-growth and spiritual development.
The healing circles are held every other Friday, 8:00 p.m.- 10:00 p.m. They are open to all people who are seeking support and direction in their healing. There is a $10 requested donation.

Conducting trials on alternative care in Monmouth Medical Center
In an effort to integrate alternative and complementary care into clinical settings, Diane Todd is now leading a study at Monmouth Medical Center's oncology department. Monmouth Medical Center is one of Jersey Shore's primary hospitals, located in Long Branch.
In this trial, Diane meets weekly with patients teaching and empowering them with various techniques that include breathing exercises, guided imagery, Reiki, the power of positive thinking, managing worry, and much more. All techniques are those they can use on their own, and will enable them to actively help manage their illness and symptoms.
Patients are monitored on both an emotional and physical level to determine the benefits of the program. One of the key indicators the hospital is closely watching is medication, and if patients are able to reduce the dosage and strength of what they are taking, especially for pain management. This is critical because of medication side effects and dependency. Another significant indicator is whether Emergency Room visits are decreasing.
Patients with serious and long-term illnesses often suffer with acute anxiety, depression, panic and other issues that can be debilitating and cause additional negative effects on their physical health. This trial will offer key initiatives to assist patients in managing the emotional impact of their illness, as well.
The goal of the program is to integrate alternative care with the traditional care patients are currently receiving. It's not to replace traditional care, but to enhance it.
